Sun ‘N Fun: From the Ground Up
SUN ‘n FUN was created by a small group of passionate aviation enthusiasts in 1974. The annual event, held in April, has grown into the second largest event of its kind in the world. Covering six days and 2,200 acres, the event offers jet teams, aerospace-related exhibits, educational forums, aircraft displays, daily and evening airshows that include aerobatics, a veterans plaza, and Women in Aviation International arenas.
LkldTV joined visitors from more than 80 countries at the event held at Lakeland Linder Regional Airport. We were told that air traffic movements for the event elevate the airport to the ‘busiest in the world’ for one week.
SUN ‘n FUN supports local youth by making more than $430,000 of scholarship funds available annually to students in Polk County Public Schools who enter an Aerospace Industry career to cover the cost of flight lessons and/or college tuition for 4 years.
